Fr. Mike Dechant, OMI was appointed the new Superior and Fr. Doug joins Fr. Bill Stang, OMI, Fr Joe Jacek, OMI, Darcie Lich, Gerry Weinkauf, Matt Sherry and Corrine Pambrin on the Team. The Team meets approximately every 6 – 8 weeks either in person or by Zoom. The complete list of meeting dates is yet to be determined. The whole of the Oblate District meets 4 times a year to deal with issues of concern. Our District gatherings are like family gatherings where we deal with business concerns and with celebrations of birthdays, anniversaries and engage in social time and of course prayer and reflection. The Oblates are trying to return to in-person meetings which had been suspended due to Covid concerns. As the Fall unfolds, the District Leadership will decide whether in person meetings are prudent. Ministry Sign – Up The need for helping hands is a universal need, whether in the home, at work, in the parish community or in the wider community. Organizations cannot survive without the faithful commitment of their members. In the Church people who busy themselves carrying out tasks on behalf of the Parish Community to make known the Gospel and in service of their brothers and sisters are known as ministers. What they do is called ministry. For our parish to maintain itself we need ministers and for our parish community to grow we need faithful committed ministers. Often in a parish, once a person starts to do something it is often assumed that they will do that task, that ministry for life. Some folks are okay with that, and some are not. This week we are asking you to consider your gifts and your abilities and where you are at in your life, and we are asking you to make a commitment to a ministry within our parish community. I am asking that people pay special attention to our need for Pastoral Council members. Please complete the forms as soon as possible and return them to the Parish Office. Again, our parish cannot survive or grow without your faithful commitments. Please be as generous as you can. We ask everyone to sign up. Please do not assume that since you have been doing a ministry in the past that we will simply include you in our lists. We need everyone to sign up and make a commitment for one year. We do not want to assume your generosity or take you for granted. Thanks for all you do for Our Lady of Peace Parish. Outdoor and Indoor Work Bee – As you have probably noticed the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are falling. It is time for us to do a little work in our parish. A little window cleaning, trash pick-up and some landscaping are on the agenda. Weather permitting there will be a fall outdoor Work Bee, October 1 starting at 10:00 AM. Sacramental Preparation – If your child has not yet prepared for and celebrated the sacrament of reconciliation, please register your child by completing the registration forms now available. You will be required to take part in a parent meeting where you will receive materials for the preparation and formation of your child. The Church reminds us that parents are the first teachers of their children and bear the responsibility for preparing their children for the celebration of the sacraments. It is also imperative that the parents and the children physically take part in the Sunday liturgy as frequently as possible. On the one hand they belong to this faith community and on the other they will learn more about Jesus Christ and their faith by taking part in the faith life of the community. Your Prayers Please – Father Fahlman has notified us that Paul Thevenot, brother of Bishop Emeritus Albert Thevenot, passed away September 10. Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Paul Thevenot as well as Bishop Thevenot and his family. Catechetical Sunday – This Sunday we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. The theme is “This is My Body Given for You”. This Sunday is a reminder to all of us of how important it is to share our faith with others. In a special way it is a time to acknowledge the work being done to share our faith with interested adults, our children. It is also a time to recognize the importance of preparing our children for the celebration of the sacraments. Queen Elizabeth’s Death – Queen Elizabeth passed away September 8 at her summer home in Balmoral, Scotland. Her funeral will be held on September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London. The following prayer is for the repose of HM The Queen: Almighty God, you are the author and sustainer of all human life; grant that your servant, Elizabeth our Queen, whom you granted a long and happy reign as Monarch of these lands may be forgiven her sins and rewarded with that eternal life promised to all those born again in the water of baptism and power of your Spirit. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit God, forever and ever. Amen Eternal rest, grant to her O Lord and let Perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, Through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Sunday Collection – September 4: Meadow Lake $1365.00 Green Lake $481.80 The Pope’s Prayer Intention for September – For the abolition of the death penalty: We pray that the death penalty, which attacks the dignity of the human person, may be legally abolished in every country. Father Maurice Fiolleau has informed us of the death of Hilary Fahlman, the father of our Chancellor Father Michael Fahlman. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Father Maurice Fiolleau sent the following information today. In Nigeria the village of about 3000 people, where Fr. Frederick Akah comes from was attacked and many people were brutally killed including his brother-in-law, John. Please pray for Fr. Frederick and for his family, especially his sister and her children and for the repose of the soul of his brother John. Grandparents Day – We celebrate Grandparents Day today. Attached to the bulletin is a letter from Bishop Stephen Hero about honoring elders and grandparents. Here are 5 ways to celebrate our grandparents and elders: 1. Make a photograph craft – grandparents and elders love photos of their favourite kids, so incorporate pictures into a project. 2. Interview grandparents and elders – kids will be fascinated to learn what life was like back in the day. 3. Make a special recipe or do a craft together – spending time together is a great idea. 4. Offer thoughtful services – make a coupon book of things kids can do for grandparents and elders. 5. Give or send a homemade card. Sacramental Preparation – Provincial and Diocesan guidelines had encouraged us to exercise caution re: our liturgies and our parish gatherings. As a result of the caution few people had come forward to ask that their children prepare for the sacraments of reconciliation, confirmation and first communion. Beginning this year, we will be preparing the children to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation. We will also ask them to take part in the catechetical program which supports the preparation for the sacrament. Children must prepare for and celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation before they begin their preparation for confirmation and first communion. If your child has not yet prepared for and celebrated the sacrament of reconciliation, please register your child by completing the registration forms which will be available starting September 6. You will be required to take part in a parent meeting where you will receive materials for the preparation and formation of your child. November 1 – All Saints Day – Bishop Stephen Hero will visit the communities of St. Jude’s in Green Lake and Our Lady of Peace in Meadow Lake. While there is still some planning to do it is our hope to have a prayer, some food and some visiting at Green Lake at 11:30 or so. Bishop will then come to Our Lady of Peace, and we will have a sung evening prayer at 5:30 followed by potluck supper and the opportunity to visit with Bishop Stephen and receive his blessing. Plans for the Bishop to meet and pray with the people of Our Lady of the Smile at Waterhen Lake are in process. Introducing our New Youth Director: Adam Rieger has been hired as the diocese’s full-time Youth and Young Adult Director as of September 6, 2022. When we look at the composition of the College of Cardinals, we discover that they represent 89 different countries. Previously most of the Cardinals were from Europe. Under the leadership of Pope Francis, the College of Cardinals is slowly becoming more representative of the Universal Church. Since 2013, when Pope Francis assumed leadership of the Catholic Church the percentage of cardinals from Europe has dropped from 52% to 40%. Meanwhile cardinals representing the region of Asia have increased from 9% to 17%, the African Region 9% to 12% and the Latin American Region 16% to 18%. At the present time there are 4 Cardinals from Canada. In his comments to the Cardinals, Pope Francis reminded the newly appointed cardinals that they are to love the Church, to contemplate the mystery of Christ’s life, to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples, and they are to serve all people. Pope Francis invited the cardinals to nurture the virtues of humility, meekness and charity. From August 28-30 Pope Francis gathered all the cardinals to a meeting in Rome. They discussed many issues within the Church. The Cardinals were divided into small language groups (English, Spanish, French and Italian) so that they could have a free exchange of ideas. One of the key items of discussion was the new document, Praedicate Evangelium which was issued by Pope Francis and reorganizes the structures of the Vatican Offices which serve the universal Church. The theme of Synodality was also discussed at the meeting and it was practiced at the meeting. People spoke and people listened. The speaking and listening were in light of what might the Holy Spirit be asking of us at this moment in our history as Church. This practice of speaking and listening, of Synodality, is rooted in the life of the early Church and can be seen in the Acts of the Apostles and in the New Testament Letters.
