OUR LADY OF THE CAPE – On Thursday, May 19 the Statue of our Lady of the Cape from Cap de la Madeline, Canada’s National Shrine, will arrive in Meadow Lake. At 3:00 pm the statue will be enthroned in a liturgy with scripture readings, hymns and the rosary followed by an opportunity for quiet personal prayer. At 4:00 pm we will have the opportunity to watch Bridge of Roses, a film about the miracles of Cap de la Madeline. Supper will be served (chill, bun, salad and dessert) from 5:00 - 6:15 pm in the Parish Hall. Cost is by donation. At 6:40 pm in the Church we will sing some Marian Hymns. At 7:00 pm we will have an hour of prayer including scripture readings, the rosary, Veneration, Litany of the Blessed Virgin, Act of Consecration and the Blessing of Roses. All are welcome! This year, we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of this event. The Marian Statue that was used at the time was from Canada’s National Marian Shrine located at Cap de la Madeleine near Trois Rivières, Quebec. The original statue is known as Our Lady of the Cape. As a result, the Marian Devotional Movement is visiting various dioceses in Canada in 2022 as it spearheads pilgrim statue tours of Our Lady of the Cape to provide opportunities for Canadians to venerate Canada's National Madonna, to promote consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and to promote enrollment in the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. A replica statue of Our Lady of the Cape will be touring our diocese from May 18 - May 20. Rain or Shine Rosary at our Grotto – Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. beginning May 10th and continuing throughout the month of May. Come and join us at the Grotto for the Rosary, rain or shine! A basket will be placed at the entrance of the Church, and you can drop off your prayer needs/intentions and we will pray for them every Tuesday, beginning May 10th! Mass in honor of Mother Marie RIvier – Foundress of the Sisters of Presentation: On Saturday, May 28 there will a special mass in honor of the Canonization of Mother Marie Rivier at 11:00 at the Cathedral followed by a lunch. If you are interested in taking part in the mass and lunch and celebrating with the Sisters of Presentation please call the parish office (306) 236 5122 so we can let them know how many people will be coming. The Ministry of Commentator: As Judy and Margaret were preparing the liturgical ministry lists for the summer, they noted that we have very few people who want to do this ministry. After some conversations and reflection, we will no longer have a commentator. Should things change in the future we will adapt. The person designated as lector will lead the intercessions from the usual place. The person responsible for music ministry will announce the Gathering Hymn to begin the liturgy. This change will be effective June 4/5! Baptism Formation Our commitment to our faith is a lifelong journey. We need help and support along the way. The mission of the Church (that is all of us together) is to help and support each other as we get to know our Triune God. We know from personal experience that our knowledge and experience of God unfolds as our life unfolds. Parents have the wonderful responsibility of sharing and supporting their own faith in the sacrament of marriage, and they have the wonderful responsibility of sharing faith with their children; helping them to become intentional disciples of Jesus. Recently, in our parishes when someone has come to have their child baptized the focus has been sharing information about the sacrament of baptism thus assuming that they were prepared to share faith with their children. The New Catechetical Directory and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults invite us to refocus our efforts. These documents, recently published, encourage us to help people explore their relationship with God so that they are better equipped for their journey of faith and their responsibility to share the Sacraments of Initiation with their children (Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation and Communion). In light of this, I have been working in consultation with the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis for our Diocese to develop a program for our parish which will better prepare people for their work of faith sharing. As people come seeking the sacraments for their children they will be invited and encouraged to reflect on their relationship with God and with the Church. I will be sharing this program and approach with the parishes in one of my homilies. I will also be sharing this approach with people as they come requesting the sacraments. Synod 2021-2023 Information: The Diocesan Synod Wrap-Up will be taking place on June 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph parish in Prince Albert...260 - 25 St E, Prince Albert, SK. The coffee will be on at 9:30 a.m., so plan to come early and visit with others from across the Diocese. An option to attend the Wrap-Up virtually is also being offered if attending in person for any reason is not possible. The primary focus of the Wrap-Up is the sharing of the Diocesan Synod report before it is sent on to the Western region, where it will be synthesized with the reports from the other Western Dioceses. There will also be an opportunity at the event for small group conversations about what we have heard and how the results of this listening process are calling us to journey forward as the Diocese. The Wrap-Up will conclude with a Eucharistic celebration, followed by lunch. Please call the parish office to register. In honor of his ordination we are being asked to present him with a spiritual bouquet. A spiritual bouquet is a commitment of prayer, fasting or acts of charity done for a particular person. You are invited to make a commitment to prayer, an act of charity, a period of fasting for Deacon Tai. Please contact the parish office and let us know of your commitment and we will gather the commitments of our people and present them to Deacon Tai. Please submit your commitment on or before June 8. Nicanor Ferreras, who serves the parishes of Notre Dame and St. Andre as well as providing ministry to the schools and hospital in North Battleford is taking an extended health leave. Likewise, Fr. Phong Tran who serves the communities of Shellbrook, Leask and Mistawasis First Nation is taking an extended health leave. Please pray for these men and their well being and for the people and communities they serve. Priests from the surrounding parishes will adjust their schedules to cover the needs of the people. The communities they currently serve will be asked to make sacrifices for the common good of all. As our celebration of the resurrection of the Lord continues, the Church again subtly reminds us of the complete paschal mystery: Christ’s passage through suffering and death to new life in God. This is the full reality of our continuing life in Christ and the message Christians proclaim by word and action. Today’s Scriptures continue to weave past, present, and future into a single proclamation of the Good News of Jesus the Christ. Last Sunday’s reading from Acts described Paul and Barnabas turning their mission toward the Gentiles. Today’s first reading continues their journey to “the ends of the earth” (Acts 13:47). In their effort to proclaim the Gospel, these early disciples discover one of the abiding truths of the Christian life: “It is necessary to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God” (14:22). As apocalyptic literature, Revelation focuses on the future completion of God’s work in Christ. In the past, Israel’s prophets envisioned the final age of salvation in powerful imagery that saw everything made new – Israel, Jerusalem, the Temple, and even Israel’s relationship with God. Today’s reading appears near the end of Revelation’s description of God’s reign in all its fullness at the end of time. The description of a new heaven and earth points to the re-creation of all things, an existence devoid of evil or chaos, symbolized by “the[chaotic!] sea was no more” (Rv 21:1). In this new world, God will dwell with humankind in a relationship as close as marriage, in which two become as one. The setting of the Gospel is Jesus’ supper with his disciples shortly before his death. John interprets that sacrifice as the ultimate act of love: giving one’s very life for others. Jesus’ sacrifice in the past provides the vision and mission for our present and future.

Thank You to the Knights of Columbus for a delicious pancake breakfast last Sunday. Thank you to all who came to enjoy the great food and fellowship. NEW INITIATIVES IN OUR PARISH Conversations: Beginning this Saturday live and on Facebook I will start a program called Conversations. In his encyclical letter Fratelli tutti (Fraternity and Social Relationships), Pope Francis is encouraging us to encounter one another. He recognizes that there are many divisions in our world and many of them flow from the fact that we are not talking to and listening to one another. He suggests that we need to encounter one another so as to see and understand each other. This initiative called Conversations is an attempt to help us see and understand one another. From time to time I hope to have a conversation with someone who can help us to see points of view which may be overlooked. This is an effort to help us learn. A copy of the Synthesis was sent out electronically to people with email addresses. A hard copy will be sent out to those who do not have email. It is our hope that we hear each other. Perhaps having heard we can continue to speak and to share our faith in Jesus Christ with one another. The work of the two parishes was combined and submitted to the Diocese as our contribution from the Cluster. Thank you for sharing with us! Marian Month: May as a Marian Month has to be understood within the wider context of the Liturgical Season. During the Easter Season, the Regina Caeli (see CBW III, no 460 “Be Joyful, Mary, Heavenly Queen”) is appropriate. Where there is a custom of a Marian hymn at Mass, it should be the concluding song of the celebration. See Pastoral Note 28b, p 53. Which says the following: Marian Months: May and October as “Marian” months must always reflect and support the context of the Liturgical year. Weekdays of May generally fall within the Easter Season. Thus, May devotions highlight the special sharing of the Blessed Virgin in the Paschal Mystery of Christ her Son, including the Pentecost event in which she joined with the Apostles awaiting the gift of the Holy Spirit. October often includes the rosary, always recited as a prayerful reflection on the entire Paschal Mystery. On Sundays especially, celebrations must always respect the best traditions of the church and its liturgical regulations. It is helpful to recall that Luke authored a two-volume work, Luke-Acts. In his first volume he unfolds the healing life, death, and resurrection of Jesus; in Acts, he shows the life-changing effect of Jesus that the disciples who knew him carried to the whole world. In Luke’s account of the Gospel, Jesus sends the twelve to announce the Kingdom of God but warns them that if they are not welcomed, they are to shake the dust from their feet, a sign of dissociating oneself from another. In Acts, Paul and Barnabas proclaim Jesus as the Messiah who has begun God’s rule on earth, but some Jews reject this testimony. Obedient to Jesus, they turn to the Gentiles. In this manner, they fulfill the Old Testament and demonstrate one of Luke’s major themes: the spread of the Good News “to the ends of the earth” (Acts 13:47). The second reading and Gospel continue the motif of universality, showing Jesus as the Good Shepherd for all people. Belonging to Jesus depends not on ethnicity or religious background or any accident of birth but on recognizing and responding to his call: “My sheep hear my voice” (Jn 10:27). Revelation looks forward to the culmination of history and the completion of God’s reign through Jesus. In the vision of John the Seer, those who pass through suffering and death like Jesus, with complete trust in God, will also emerge transformed and victorious (symbolized by white robes and palm branches) at the end. Regardless of “nation, race, people, and tongue” (Rv 7:9), all who hear and follow the voice of Jesus belong to his flock, now and forever.

Our keynote speakers are Dr. Deanna Thompson (author of The Virtual Body of Christ in a Suffering World) and Dr. Jeffrey Mahan (author of Church as Network: Christian Life and Connection in Digital Culture). Our speakers will be looking at our new digital-ecclesial landscape through historical, theological, and pastoral lenses. Queen’s House of Retreats – Spiritual Care for Those Living with Dementia – This workshop offered by Sr. Cindy Lewans, PM will be offered on Zoom, on Saturday, May 7th, from 1:00 – 4:30 pm. Sr. Cindy is an Associate Chaplain of Sherbrooke Community Centre and Central Haven and is a member of the Sisters of Presentation of Mary. For the past six years she has had the grace and privilege of journeying with people – including those living with dementia in a mutual quest for spiritual health and full life.
