MAiD Safeguards Petition - Until Sunday, June 21, the MAiD Safeguards petition will be available at the back of the Church. The petition asks the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan to implement two safeguards, similar to those already in place in other Canadian provinces. On the Diocesan website, using the same link to access the petition, you will find the recording of the ‘MAiD for You?’ presentation on the Diocesan Pastoral Care Page. It outlines the expansion of MAiD in Canada and explains why we should be concerned.
Scripture Insights – Body and Blood of Christ Taken from Source Book for Sundays, Seasons and Weekdays 2026: The Almanac for Pastoral Liturgy, LTP Liturgy Training Publications Copyright 2025, 3949 South Racine Avenue, Chicago, IL 60609, pg. 234. During the exodus from Egypt, God supported Israel’s life in two ways. First, God provided miraculous bread. God also instructed the Israelites, guiding them through the desert and giving laws that provided peace and prosperity. As this Sunday’s first reading teaches, miraculous food and divine instruction worked together to keep the Israelites alive as they journeyed through the desert. In the second reading, Paul adapts these ancient teachings for Christ’s early followers. Apparently, the Eucharist banquets at Corinth had become immoderate and sometimes even decadent events. Paul reminds the Corinthians that the bread and wine were not just food, they were the real presence of Christ. Anyone who consumed them became coinheritors of Christ’s mission. Sharing the Eucharist banquet signified a willingness to live and die for the salvation of God’s people. Paul teaches the Corinthians to balance their authentic joy at Christ’s presence with an awareness of the awesome responsibility that gift confers. In the Gospel reading, Jesus provides a similar adaptation to his first followers. He compares the flesh and blood he offers his followers to the manna that Israel ate in the desert. The ancient Israelites received bread as a gift from God, but the bread Jesus offers is a gift of his very self. Just as Israel found life in bread and instruction, so Christians find eternal life in the Eucharist and Christ’s example. The life of the world is sustained when Christians consume the Body of Christ and then go forth to teach generosity, courage, love and faith.
